The SABHC Board Committee is composed of nine (9) positions dedicated to adult residents, youth residents and grantees/partner organizations that collectively represent SABHC’s perspective, interest, dreams and determination.

The California Endowment’s Building Healthy Communities initiative and the “Health Happens Here” campaign challenges us to think about health beyond the doctor’s office and the good – or bad – choices people make. Our health depends on where we live, learn and play. “Health Happens Here” also questions why some places lack basic ingredients for health and what can be done about it. By building healthier communities, we will make California stronger. Central Santa Ana was selected as one of 14 sites to participate in The California Endowment’s Building Healthy Communities Initiative.

Your zip code shouldn’t determine how long you live, but it does. In fact, health has more to do with place than doctors visits. The odds are stacked against low-income communities and communities of color. Building Healthy Communities is about changing rules at the local and state levels so that everyone is valued and has access to the resources and opportunities essential for health: affordable housing and fresh food, jobs that are safe and pay fair wages, clean air, and the other ingredients essential for a healthy life. California Endowment Program Manager 

Sandy Chiang, program manager for Santa Ana, returned to The California Endowment in September 2015 after a three-year hiatus.

Prior to her current position, Chiang served as the program manager for Long Beach Building Healthy Communities. In addition, Chiang served for two years as a program associate at The Endowment during which she provided analysis of grant proposals, served on the monthly peer review committee for funding recommendations and provided technical assistance to organizations across the state seeking grant funding.

Prior to joining The Endowment, Chiang was director of the Justice, Advocacy and Compassion (JAC) Ministry for NewSong Community Church where she developed strategies to engage and mobilize NewSong congregation members to become involved in the JAC Ministry. In addition, she served as a consultant for NewSong’s urban ministry program, the SHAW.

Chiang was also a health educator for Kaiser Permanente Southern California Medical Group and a project director for People Assisting the Homeless (P.A.T.H.) where she oversaw the organizational design and implementation of the PATHHealth Clinic, which provides primary health care services to homeless individuals in Los Angeles.
